Why did I select this image?
- Ansel Adams said "A good pghotograph is knowing where to stand"
- I walked up the side of the course and found this corner - it was at the point furthest fr0m the start/finish
- I liked the reverse "s" curve- it created depth in the image
- also the crowd in the distance created a straight line which was bounded - trees on the left and a house/shed on the right - which kept the eyes in the image
- also I got a diagonal of runner taking the corner to give the impression of movement
- the posts were well positioned to allow me to focus on the runner- this was in the pre-auto focus era
- This was the last lap, I was fortunate that the other runners appeared in the image
the runner was John Treacy who won the race in 28 minutes. Steve Cram is in white, he was third
John Treacy was from Waterford, Ireland
- he won the world Cross Country Championship twice - in 1978 in Glasgow and in 1979 in Limerick, Ireland.
He won an Olympic silver medal at the Los Angeles Games in 1984 behind Carlos Lopes of Portugal
- John apparently ran 7 miles a day to school
