Why did I select this image?
- I liked the composition
- Slemish in the background
- various bands of different shades across the image
- contrast in scale between the expanse of land and the size of the hill walkers
- the hill walkers were members of mountain rescue team
How did I find myself at this emergency?
- there had been heavy falls of snow and high winds which had caused drifting - reports in the news were of households cut off and sheep in difficulty
- I decided to walk up the Cairncastle Hill Climb.
I parked at Carncastle in the church car park
walked up the Feystown Road - was passed by two mountain rescue 4 by 4s - and a TV Crrew ina 4 by 4
A snow plough had been in fromt clearing the road
- at the layby at the top of the hill the mountain team were getting kitted out when I arrived
I took some photographs includng this one
I walked back down to my car, drove home and contacted the local weekly newspaper - The Larne Times to see if they were interested in a picture of the event.
They were and published it on the front page - see next image
