The World Police and Fire Games (WPFG) is a biennial event for serving and retired police, prison and border security officers.

The WPFG is the third largest international multi-sport event in the world and will be the largest ever sporting event to take place in Northern Ireland. The 2013 Games will have more competitors than any previous Commonwealth Games.

Belfast won the right to stage these Games following a very competitive bid process in 2007.

This is the first time that the Games will be hosted on the British Isles and indeed only the third time in the 28 year history that they will be hosted in Europe.

Olympic Gold medallist Dame Mary Peters is Patron of 2013 WPFG.

IN 2013 there will be 56 sports held at 41 venues across Northern Ireland from 1-10th August.

Seven thousand competitors from over 60 countries are expected to take part.
