These championships were held in Larne Lough on Saturday and Sunday 9th and 10th May 2026.
There were 6 races , three on each of the days with 5 races scoring - one result could be disgarded.
Larne Lough is wide where the sailing was taking place. On day 1 two of the marks were close to my chosen location so I was able to get some reasonable shots but the course was changed on day 2 and the boats were much farther away.
I was shooting with a 300mm prime lens - I have a 1.4 converter which would have made the lens 420mm, but is degrades the image quality slightly and I knew I would be severely cropping so I decided to stick with the 300mm basic lens.
I have presented the images taken on day 1 in separate galleries by laser class and also published all my images on day 2 in galleries by boat class.
I have concluded that land based shooting of sailing competitions is difficult because the boats are usually too far away - you need to be on the committee boat or in rescue boat following the boats to get closer to be able to fill the frame and capture the emotions of the competitors.
